28mm Film

The 28mm film gauge was introduced c.1912 by Pathé in France. Because all release prints were on Safety Film, it became very popular for home and institutional screenings.

In Australia, it was adopted by the various education authorities for in-school screenings of the many science and nature documentaries that Pathé released.

28mm Release Prints

Pathé camera film label

A film can and label from HERSCHELLS, the Australian distributors of Pathé’s  28mm films and equipment.

FORMATS:  Release prints - left edge, one perforation on the frame line and 3 perforations per frame of right edge.                 (This format was adopted as it made it impossible to thread the projector out of frame - unlike 35mm film)

Camera film - three perforation each side of the frame.  (Of course framing was unnecessary in the camera.)
